Being in Control of Yourself (English)

Self-control

Titus 2:11-12

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

Introduction:

You must know that self-control is vital. It helps us respond better to God's Words.

People who tend to lose their self-control are at high risk of losing their soul because they are more likely to give in to physical and mental temptations and sin.

Many young people think that they have the whole world in front of them. They think they can do anything and that everything is possible to do, like holding hands, kissing, hugging, or even getting involved in sexual activities even if you are not married and don’t really love the guy or the girl that much.

All of this is because the hormones that are pumping through them and the stimuli they receive from TV, movies, music, and friends. The influence of the society we live in are pushing the youth to do just like they do: live with a lack of self-control and live according to your emotions, which can lead you to sinful excess and push you away from the things that can lead you to your goals.

You need to step back and consider if your actions are consistent with the things that matter the most to you and if you are living without regreting your acts. All Christians must have self-control, for it is the will of God for us to abstain from immorality and that will teaches us to stay away from lustful passions and to keep us from acting like those who don't know God.

1 Thessalonians 5:6-8

So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awakeand sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

Solomon had a self-control problem, too. He was wise, but not so smart when it cames to women. The Bible states that his wives had turned his heart after other gods. You can't do anything about the hormones you have because God made and designed you this way, but you do need to be careful that they don’t turn your heart away from obedience to the Lord.

Esau look at the stew and without giving a second thought to God, told Jacob, "Take the birthright, I am hungry." Spending time at R-rated movies, reading pornographic material, or being involved in activities that would be degrading instead of focusing on God’s blessings: how dumb are these choices some make today. Many trade away what’s important for unimportant and we trade away our tomorrows for cheap things and forget what the Lord has planned for us. Cheating brings more negative results than we expect

Let’s not try to do this alone but, let the Holy Spirit help us exercise self-control and we’ll be victorious in our daily Christian walk. There is penalty for all people who are out of control, and people who have self-control will be rewarded.

Please learn to control yourselves.

Amen
